7 Ways To Make World A Better Place

The world that you see today is a consequence of vision and actions of many people. People in past and the present, including you, contribute to how the world is and how it will be. Each step counts.
So, here are 7 ways to lead an impactful life
1. Differentiate between needs and wants.
Focus on what you really need rather can acquiring everything that you just feel like having. What you need is not always ‘material’. Explore about minimalism as a way of life.
2. Give strength to good initiatives.
Volunteer your time and money. Donate to initiatives that are working hard to improve the world in spite of all the challenges. Most importantly, spread the word about good things. If you liked a course, a workshop, a place, a product, an organization or anything else, share about it with others too. This may help others too to try and benefit from them. This way, you help good initiatives spread to make this world a better place. Here are two examples of spreading the word & how to do it well. Example 1, Example 2.
3. Be a part of groups and spaces that have diversity.
Most feel comfortable with people who are from familiar and similar contexts. But it is practically impossible that everyone in the world is going to be exactly like YOU! There will also be differences and that is OK! So, overcome your challenges in acceptance of diversity. Let’s be respectful of each other. 4. Practice mindfulness.
Use mindfulness to focus on yourself, the present, here and now but not immediately react to everything that happens in front of you. This will improve your life as well as this world because your interactions with others will also spread happiness and smiles.
5. Take steps towards sustainable living.
Sustainable living will help you, your organization, as well as the planet for generations to come. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle is the mantra! Some common everyday practices are: carrying your own bag to buy groceries, carrying your own water bottle rather than buying or asking of disposable plastic water bottles, switching from shampoo bottles to shampoo bars, switching to slow fashion, borrowing or using pre-owned products instead of buying new whenever possible, and so on. 6. Accept self and imperfections.
Our ideas about who we are and how we should be should ideally be embedded in social justice and compassion. Instead, we are bound by norms and majoritarian views about perfections. However, nobody is perfect because perfection is not a fixed goal post. Definitions of ‘success’, ‘good’, and ‘perfect’ are not fixed. If you can begin accepting self, own challenges, and imperfection… then that will be a beginning of accepting imperfections in others too. And hence, we will be able to contribute to a better world by becoming more accepting of diversity around us. This will also help us practice empathy in everyday life.
7. Practice curiosity and update your perspectives on diverse issues.
If questions don’t come to your mind when you see or meet something for the first time, then that could be a big problem! Are you assuming that you know everything? Let’s change that! Practice curiosity. Explore more about things and update your perspectives. E.g. Is disability a bad word? Is empathy a skill or a trait or both? What is empathic listening?
In conclusion, making this world better in our hands. This world will become better progressively better as we take big and small steps everyday and keep spreading the word about those steps.
