A Day on Ginny's Planet
As someone who had no particular inclination towards sports, it was in 2011, when Madhusudan attended a wheelchair tournament in Bengaluru (self-admittedly not by his own will!) that he was introduced to Wheelchair Tennis. His curiosity and interest led him to discover that he had a knack for Tennis and eventually fell in love with the sport. He was only 17 at the time.
Let’s be honest, we do not focus on or think (and neither do the media outlets) about sportspersons with disability until and unless someone bags a medal and that too if it is at the Olympics and no less!
Did you know that we have a Divyang Premier League (DPL), the inaugural season of which was organized in 2017? I got to know about the same from Sagar Gowda’s interview with Debraj Chaudhury, that was held during the fourth edition of A Day on Ginny’s Planet. A Day on Ginny’s Planet is a quarterly event (online) by Ginny’s Planet and brings diverse conversations and workshops to people across ages. Sports is always a part of this day.
I was reminded of my time during my S.U.P.W. classes in school. Those classes gave us students a space to express ourselves in the best way possible and the best form possible according to our interests. A space that often gets side-lined once you get into the grind. But A Day on Ginny’s Planet gives each one that open and judgment-free space that they need to revive their hobbies and interests and use that to freely express themselves.
